I can only get through the December madness by operating a 'one for them, one for me' gift buying scheme. I even make a mental list of things I'd quite fancy for myself and work though it in December. Highly recommended.
Commendation on getting off the plane and straight into a lovely time and enjoying it so thoroughly. I arrived home at 5 am yesterday after a 7 week trip away and feel quite overwhelmed, even though I have scaled down drastically in recent years. (The look of relief on a chums face when you say 'I know, let's go out for a lovely lunch in January instead of worrying about presents').
The concerts at St Martins - thank you so much for the link - will peruse and buy. We all need more beauty and candlelight in the dark months.
Seven weeks away is pretty epic though! And I agree, lunch with a friend so much better than presents. Enjoy Saint Martin's, it's an absolute jewel in the city.
Thanks for the film recs. I can’t abide the Christmas madness; everything’s done online for me now. What you miss in atmosphere you gain in sanity and don’t make rash, expensive purchases out of desperation. I can highly recommend Cambridge Imprint crackers. Very jolly. They’re not cheap but they come in one of their beautiful storage boxes.
In haste but ooh, Meri Meri deserves serious immersion in its website. I see she is American and my God, they do all this so very, very well. What a splendid week that sounds and no matter how many days one actually *has* there is always only a week to get ready for Christmas …
Just had a good look at all the Christmas things and the candles and advent calendars, especially the charm bracelet and necklace ones, really stand out. I would like one of everything, pretty much, and want to buy the sausage dog crackers - each with an enamel dachshund badge - just for ME. Oh, and the festive hair clips and the nail stickers and and and!
Got the Lusitania joke! ✅😂
Boom!

What a week!! Makes me feel very home bound, but in our own way we are living a busy happy life so win-win for all of us. Where are you going next?
Exactly!! As for where next...will tell you not on a public forum! xx

Ha ha haaa.... this is pretty much me!
Aah! Merci Meri is American - yes, that does explain it!
Mr Burton is wonderful!
Glad you agree!
Less alcohol here too. But cocktails don’t count? Right? https://www.stylist.co.uk/food-drink/nigellas-christmas-cocktail-recipes/36614 all of these on repeat.
Will have to try them all out and test whether they count…!
