Lovely post! Lovely pic of you and your sister! Landman....Dallas on diazepam! I know that area pretty well as it's on the way through to the past of west Texas where I go whenever I can. the kids and I spent all of last summer there, about two hours from the area of Landman which is Midland Odessa. It is definitely a fascinating area but I gave up watching it because of the cliches falling out of Billy Bob Thornton's mouth. Texas is so misunderstood in America, let alone the rest of the world, but it's far, far more nuanced and politically mixed, and yes, moderate, than people think. I guess the show is made as entertainment, but it's not Texas, at all. At least, not in my experience. I'm going to find a link to a fantastic podcast about Texas you might find interesting, by Anne Helen Person called Culture Study. Where I stay is very, very blue, and it's only a couple of hours from Midland. What I am saying is that Texas is not exclusively oil and Maga, it really isn't ! I'd definitely not spend so much time there if it was.

A visit to Texas has been on my bucket list since I was a boy! I have had a couple of Texan friends so I know not to buy the red neck gunslinger image! I hope I get there before I die 🤩

Listen to this - I promise it will change your image of Texas. People think that Texas is all about oil and Evangelical far right Christianity and big bottle blondes and cowboys - and its way way more interesting, political mixed and culturally diverse than that. And the proximity to Mexico makes it totally fascinating. I saw Steve Earle playing recently, he described Texas as occupied Mexico, which I loved. Anyway it's a place I feel passionate about! Happy Easter XXX

Oh absolutely yes! I have had great times in Texas, too. I think the Sheridan effect is more about the urban/rural divide of the US…but also MAGA voters typically are not found in states of California or NY. I’ll definitely listen to the podcast xx

Plenty of maga in CA! But it has the image of being super bright blue.

Loved reading this upbeat post in these rather down beat times. You’re right enough that science is getting close to that kind of genetic engineering, but I hope it holds off, especially any attempt at eliminating gayness and Downs Syndrome, both of which add to the joy of life. I’ll look for the Pink Stuff next time we’re in Tesco’s!
